Candle Care Guide
We want you to enjoy and make the most of your Candle. Take a moment to read the guidance on how to burn your candle successfully and safely.
Burning your candle
The first burn is always the most important. Burn your candle for approximately 3 hours the first time, or until the wax has melted to the edges (this may be slightly less time for our votive range of candles). Candle wax has memory so if your candle does not burn to the edges on its initial burn, it will begin to tunnel through the centre of your candle.
After this initial burn, light your candle for up to 3 hours at a time. The recommended burning time is between 1½ hours and 3 hours to get the best fragrance from your candle. Always allow the candle wax to solidify before relighting or moving your candle.
Trimming the wick before each burn is essential
A mushroom shape may have formed at the top of wick (this is perfectly normal). Simply remove the curled over piece of the wick with your fingers or with a wick trimmer, making sure to wash your hands afterwards. The wick should be no longer than 1cm in length and ensure there is no debris on the surface of the candle before lighting.
Location of your candle
Keep the candle away from drafts, open windows, doors, or fans as this will make the flame flicker and burn through the wax faster.
You should use your candle in a well-ventilated room, to ensure the fragrance does not overwhelm you and avoid directly breathing in vapours and fumes.
When the candle is finished
When your candle has 5mm of wax left at the bottom, it has finished, and should not be burned any further. You should dispose of any remaining contents responsibly in accordance with hazardous waste disposal regulations. Please do not pour any wax down the drains or into the soil.
Candle Safety
Always place your candle in a safe area on a heat resistant non-flammable surface where it can be seen and enjoyed.
Never leave your candle unattended. Keep your candle away from anything that could catch fire, and away from drafts. If you have children or pets, always place the candle out of reach. Contents should never be consumed or applied to the skin.
Do not move or tip a burning candle. Always extinguish the flame first and allow some time for it to cool as the container will get hot. Wait for the wax to harden and the glass to sufficiently cool before touching or moving. If you need to move an extinguished candle before the container has cooled, protect your hands with a cloth to handle.
Candle Glass Care
Our candle glasses are intended to be used for life and have many uses around the home. You may find after burning our candles for long periods a little collection of smoke can collect on the side. Do not worry this is perfectly normal and easily rectified. Once extinguished use a slightly damp cloth to wipe away any marks to maintain the beautiful appearance of your Candle.
